| The major reason to choose MASA is peace of mind,
knowing that if you find yourself in need of air ambulance service
when
seconds count
the most experienced professionals in medical air transport are only a
phone call away, prepared to handle all the necessary arrangements. Protection from catastrophic financial loss is another feature of
membership worthy of serious consideration because most health insurance policies simply
do not cover medical air services, much less return a policyholder and spouse home,
by air ambulance transport or commercial carrier, after hospitalization, or provide
vehicle return (car, RV or trailer), fly a family member to visit a hospitalized member,
escort minor children, or return mortal remains. |

| MEDICAL FLIGHTS OUT OF MEXICO
The following from Dusty Cook,
Transport Director for MASA, is a brief explanation of services available to you as a MASA
member, specifically referring to medical flights out of Mexico:
The first stop in an emergency
upgraded air ambulance from Mexico will always be the nearest hospital in the states that
can perform the necessary procedures, and then proceed to the member's residence that is
on their application.
The air ambulance flight is at no
cost to the MASA member and our transport department does all the flight
arrangements. Our transport coordinators are bilingual and our company has had an
extensive history of providing services for our members in Mexico.
In addition, MASA will fly the
member by common commercial carrier back to their state side residence on file with MASA
if that member has been hospitalized for twenty-four hours on an inpatient basis and
released.
MASA medical upgrade air ambulances from Mexico normally fly into south Texas, where the
medical facilities include McAllen Heart Institute, Valley Baptist (Harlingen), Rio Grande
Regional, and Valley Regional Medical. However, if there is a facility that the member
prefers to be taken to and the cost is equivalent to the flight to the nearest stateside
hospital, MASA will provide that flight, and MASA will fly the
member to the hospital of their choice if they are willing the pay the price difference.
MASA has been a provider for FEMA (U.S. Federal Emergency
Management Agency) in the Caribbean, contracted to Progressive Insurance as their first
affinity product, contracted to 13,000 Dallas, Texas, Independent School employees, and
with the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), an organization with
approximately 500,00 members, who researched medical assist companies and found MASA to be
the best based on our extensive history and customer service focus.
MASA
has also contracted with Atlas and AIG in Mexico, and with International Insurance Group
who, in addition to other coverage, sells over 50,000 policies annually for autos going to
Mexico.
These,
plus the PACEMD (Pan-American Collaborative Emergency Medicine Development) Program and
many more organizations, companies, and individuals have done their due diligence in
reference to MASA, and that is why they have chosen our company as their preferred
provider.
Other
companies may claim to offer competitive services, but in the fine print of their
repatriation and recuperation criteria they often qualify a flight for their members by
requiring that they have a "critical illness or injury". I wonder how they would
define "critical", for instance, would that include a broken hip. That
terminology is not part of our service agreement.
I hope that this brief
explanation helps you to understand MASA's protocol in reference to this service. There
will be a member's packet sent to you after we have received your enrollment application,
and I am certainly at your disposal if you have further questions.
